20-day seasoned dog course Advanced Gun Dog

These programs are tailored to the needs of the individual dog and owner. These are for the more mature dog that has had a season or two of hunting. They usually consist of 20 days of daily training (approximately 3 – 4 weeks). The price includes boarding, training, birds, and hands on sessions with the trainer.

Trained Retrieve Program

This program is sometimes called “forcing” but we deal with your dog in a gentle manner to get the results needed. With our program, your dog will hold a bird or any other object until you tell it to release it and then deliver it to hand. Your dog will mark birds in flight, retrieve the shot bird, and deliver it to hand when commanded. A prerequisite to this course is our Bird and Gun Intro and Fast Start programs.

Whoa Training

Whoa training is for your pointing dog. Your dog will be trained to hold its position under the command of whoa until released. This includes staying in whoa in hunting situations and at home with distractions. A prerequisite to this course is our Bird and Gun Intro and Fast Start programs.

Steadiness to Shot

This program is for your flushing dog. Your dog will be steady and stay at your side during the shot until released in hunting situations. A prerequisite to this course is our Bird and Gun Intro and Fast Start programs.

Boat and Water Work

In this program, your dog will be worked in the water with the use of a boat, dock, and shore to replicate hunting situations. We will be working on marking birds and retrieving in the water. A prerequisite to this course is our Bird and Gun Intro and Fast Start programs. This program is done on a very limited basis. There are only a few spots available each summer for this program.

Hand Signal or Whistle Training

This program is for the more advanced hunting dog and for the hunter who wants to have control over the dog by the use of hand signals or the tone of a whistle. A prerequisite to this course is our Bird and Gun Intro program, Fast Start program, and our Trained Retrieve program.
